Benefits of ToeGrips® for Dogs

Dogs use their toenails for traction. But hard nails can't grip slippery floors.
Toe grippers for dogs are the natural solution because they:

  • Provide instant paw traction for dogs on hard-surface flooring
  • Don't require gluing to your dog's nails
  • Are made for indoor/outdoor use
  • Can be worn all the time
  • Only need to be replaced every one to three months

If your senior dog is slipping on hard floors, you may be feeling helpless. But now, there's an easy solution to help stop your dog from slipping on floors once and for all: ToeGrips, the original dog nail grips.

ToeGrips are essential

ToeGrips are a must have for our spaniel who is elderly and can’t hold herself up on the wood floor without slipping, unless she’s wearing her toe grips, Toe grips are truly a blessing and we keep them on repeated order!

Amazing is understatement

My 10.5yr old had a bad acl repair in November, second surgery in February, and her leg atrophied 9cm since she hasn’t put full weight on her leg since November. Until the ToeGrips! She went from skipping on her toes to putting 90% of her weight on her bad leg as soon as I put these on! Her elbows don’t bow out and her gait is relatively smooth now. No more wipe outs on my hard floors and she’s excited for walks! I don’t have to carry her up and down the stairs anymore either.

No more slipping on the stairs for Sammy!

After our old terrier mix, Sammy, slipped a couple of times on the stairs–both going up and down–and even on the level wood floors in our house, I tried the ToeGrips. We measured his nails as per directions, got the medium size, and were able to apply them easily. It helps that he is an easy pup to work on! Since then—and it has been almost a month—no more slipping. We also had lots of snow during that time (Illinois), and the ToeGrips stayed in place even with him going outside to potty! I just signed up for a subscription to get new grips every 5 weeks.

Helping my Pom a ton!

My 8 year old Pom was not able to get traction on our hardwood floors and was slipping and her front legs were splaying out even when she was just standing. Once we put these grips on two weeks ago she is about 98 percent better and able to run and keep her feet under her. They have stayed on the whole time too! Wonderful. We are so thankful!

Harley’s success story

Harley, my 14 yr old pug could not walk on our tile floors without falling several times a day. He has a weak back and arthritis in his hips. After applying the toe grips the difference was remarkable. Harley can now maneuver throughout the house without falling. We have even seen him run a time or two. Thank you so much for your product from Harley and me! Just placed my second order!

Daisy has never been more active

Our 10 year old beagle has had a hard life unfortunately with horrible arthritis and spine issues. She has a horrible time standing and walking on any smooth surface for the past few years. I didn't want something that would stick or I would have to apply with glue in fear of it falling off or being licked off. ToeGrips have changed her life as she is a constant mover now. I dearly wish I would have found these sooner.

Don’t wait!

Before I got around to putting them on, we had a terrible incident where he was given a medication which caused ataxia and my poor old man could barely move without falling over- it was heartbreaking. The morning this happened, while awaiting the callback from our vet, I remembered the Toe Grips and quickly put them on. Although they didn’t help with his loss of coordination, they provided the needed stability to prevent him from falling. It was truly amazing.

Excellent Product

We moved into a new home that has hardwood floors. Our girl, Kaiya (Great Pyrenees) wouldn’t walk on the hard floors, and when she did, she would slide around. We were so worried she’d hurt herself. These toe grips were a game changer. Kaiya walks everywhere now. We will definitely be ordering more. I highly recommend!

Frequently asked questions

How quickly do ToeGrips work?

The non-slip nail grips fit onto your dog’s toenails to enable instant traction on hard-surface floors and stairs.

How long do ToeGrips dog nail grips last?

ToeGrips® dog nail grips typically last 1-3 months, two months on average. “Mileage” will vary based on your dog’s size, environment, and gait. The more abnormal your dog’s gait, the faster ToeGrips® dog nail grips will wear.

Will my dog chew these off?

Most people assume this is a common scenario, but 97% of dogs do not bother with or chew at their ToeGrips® dog nail grips. In fact, most dogs don’t even seem to notice them, which makes sense because ToeGrips® dog nail grips sit on the poorly innervated nail tip, as opposed to covering skin/soft tissue of the paws and paw pads.

As a veterinarian, ingestion was one of Dr. Buzby’s primary concerns years ago when bringing ToeGrips® dog nail grips to the marketplace. She consulted with several colleagues, including surgeons, about this issue and everyone agreed that based on the size of dog and size of corresponding ToeGrips® dog nail grips, they should pass right through a dog’s GI tract. To date, that has always been the case. Furthermore, ToeGrips® dog nail grips are FDA-certified non-toxic.

Confidence for My Tri-pawed Dog!

We adopted a Rough Coat Collie named Sadie from a rescue nine months ago. She is three. When she was a year old she was hit by a car and lost her right-rear leg. Outside she can run like anything. Inside, the hardwood and vinyl floors make her slip and fall at times. I keep her nails and paw-pad fur trimmed, but she needed more. I work at a veterinary practice and see older dogs using the grips with apparent success. I thought “let’s try them for Sadie!” I ordered them and described my girl and got an email very quickly from Dr. Buzby’s customer service telling how to use on a young tri-pawed dog. I put one grip each on the nails of the two middle toes on each front paw. Worked okay, but the rear “power-paw” still slipped, so added a grip to each of the two middle toes on it. I did not need to use the glue, so, so far so good. My girl can run about and play around from the living room through the kitchen of our open-plan house! So confident!! So glad I tried them and customer service has been great answering my questions when they arise. So grateful for these Toe Grips!

Ten stars if I could

This review is not for the product as my dog does not deal with paw handling so we weren’t able to use them. However, we ordered them to try just in case. We are based in Canada and needed to return for a refund. Dr. Buzby’s refunded us without us sending back the product and instead told us to donate the toe grips to a senior dog in need through our vet. Faith in humanity restored. I’ll be donating them today and hope they help someone give their senior pup more comfort.

Wish I'd bought these sooner!

Gamechanger! Such a simple and brilliant solution for our sweet senior girl. She’s been wearing them for a couple days now and the difference is amazing! Ruth is so much more sure-footed and sturdy on our floors, and I’m far less worried about her injuring a fragile joint by slipping. Her OA has led to uneven musculature in her legs, so extra traction means the world. She doesn’t seem to even notice them, and application was straightforward. 3 days in, they're staying on well during our daily walks. We've had to reapply a few, but that's no big deal — and each pack includes a few extras.

Ruth is a 68lb Pit Mix and the large grips fit her perfectly. Will be ordering more!!

Bridgett Can Walk Again!!

Our 18 year old dachshund, Bridgett, was experiencing issues with her back legs keeping traction, especially our tile and wood floors. Now she gets along just fine and enjoys walking again.

Lhasa Apso Recommended!

We have two litter-mate Lhasa Apsos, Dora and Goldie. Both are approaching 15 years of age in two months, and the aches and pains are beginning to take their effect, including general muscle weakness that comes with age.

Our tiled floor sections of the house have always been a "slid zone", especially since Lhasa's grow hair between their pads for protection from hot and cold conditions. When the dogs were younger and stronger they were able to compensate, but unfortunately now they can't do that as well. I tried keeping their paw pad hair trimmed, but alone it wasn't enough to solve the problem. Enter the perfect solution - traction provided by these awesome toe grips!

While Goldie didn't need them yet, Dora certainly did, so we tried Dr. Buzby's Toe Grips. Following the excellent instructions that came with the well-packaged product, I applied the toe grips as directed and they worked extremely well! Her feet were well-planted on the tile floors, and I could tell it made her more comfortable and confident in moving around on those slippery floors.

I did have some concerns at first. I wasn't sure if they would stay on, or if she would eventually chew them off. Surprisingly, she never messed with them. On her rear paws I realized she might not like them when trying to scratch an itch, but she was still able to do all her normal canine things same as before. She did manage to lose two of them within a week, but I found them on her bed, which she likes to paw at (excessively) before laying down. I simply cleaned them up and put them back on. I may not have had those two placed well enough on her nails, because this has not happened since. No worries even if a few go missing, we received 5 extra toe grips with our order, and I appreciated that I had the surplus to cover any losses. Also, I have experimented with leaving the inside toenails toe-grip free, just to allow her to paw and scratch herself, and it seems to still allow plenty of traction to avoid slips. I've also experimented with rotating/reversing them while waiting for a new order to arrive, with limited success.

Overall, I am very happy with the Toe-Grips! They provide a novel soluton to a common problem at a reasonable price. While you could install carpet runners everywhere, or try dog shoes (which I'm sure every dog would hate), I recommend gining these Toe-Grips a shot.

Bear

We purchased toe grips for my 110 lab who was afraid to walk on the hard wood because he would slide. After putting them on they worked for two days after that he probably had about 4 left he lost all the rest at the price tag i dont thing four days of uasage was worth the price.

I'm so sorry to hear that ToeGrips didn't help your lab, and I completely agree that based on what you describe, they wouldn't be worth the price! However, it's encouraging that for the time ToeGrips were on, they did work to help the sliding. That's a really good sign! So we just need to keep them on the nails...ToeGrips falling off makes me think they were too big (we offer free and easy exchanges for a a smaller size), or proprioceptive issues (ie. your dog drags/scuffs the nails due to a neurologic issue). If this is the case, then it's easily addressed by using a bit of super glue in the application process. Our customer care team would be happy to help you and get you what you need if you're willing to try again. The final reason that ToeGrips don't stay on well is if a dog is still young and super active. I am not sure of Bear's age, but if Bear is not a senior or special needs dog and is still really active (especially outside), ToeGrips are probably not the right product. The bottom line is that we care about your dog's success and we're happy to help you in a round 2, if you'd like to try again, or help you with a refund, if ToeGrips are just not the right product. We tried to reach you via email but have not heard back. We would love the opportunity to follow up on this with you.
Sincerely,
Dr. Julie Buzby

Tiny but Mighty like Edgar

Our 16yo tiny poodle guy has bad arthritis and muscle wasting in his hind legs. The Dr Buzby’s team was super helpful in right-sizing the toe caps and helping to maximize use by suggesting using only on certain toes to start. Turns out just a few on Edgar’s back toes were enough to reduce sliding while walking and slipping outward of his paws. A really great product with a amazing customer service!

Toe Grips

My girl 170 lb Saint Bernard had a stroke at 4 months old. She was paralyzed in her back end. Her rear right leg came back with therapy but she still has issues with the left rear leg. She doesn’t get traction on hardwood , tile floors. I have had runner rugs placed around. I have tried socks with grips ( which work too) but taken them off and on can be a pain. I finally decided to try the Toe Grips. I wish I would have tried sooner. I now have runners rugs up and she is not sliding her leg out to get a grip and stand up. It is very easy putting them on her nails. She doesn’t seemed bothered by them.

Didn't work for my active 13 yr old yellow lab

I was hopeful in buying these but somewhat skeptic as my 13 yr old yellow lab is very active and loves to run and do zoomies in the pasture; I put them on as instructed and they did seem to keep him from slipping on the wood floors (I rent). The next day I noticed 3 were missing - I was able to find them in the house and put them back on and re-checked all of them to ensure they were in place as instructed Day 2 five were now missing and I only found 1 in the house. I put the 1 back on and used the 4 extras on that came in the package. Day 3 5 were gone - Day 4 only 4 were still on and all the others were off . I imagine that these work well for mostly indoor dogs but if someone is thinking of buying them for their active senior dog they might want to be aware that they may not stay on. Overall I think it's a good product - unfortunately just not for my active lab.

Thanks so much for the honest review. I'm glad to hear that ToeGrips did seem to help your lab with traction. From what you describe I agree that your dog is just too active for ToeGrips at this stage. ToeGrips are great for senior and special needs dogs who are 'walkers' not 'runners', but if your dog is doing 'zoomies' outside in the pasture, that is going to tend to 'pop' them off. But kudos to you for keeping your dog so active! I'm glad you tried ToeGrips, and they may still prove to be the perfect product for your dog down the road. For now, we offer a 30-day money back guarantee because we want senior dog parents to be able to try them with confidence. Please reach out to our customer care team through our website or social media and we will help you.
All my best,
Dr. Julie Buzby
