Help me choose my dog’s size

Measuring your dog's nails (outlined in our video tutorial and our written instructions below) is the gold standard for selecting the ideal size for your dog.

Watch the Video Tutorial
Follow the Written Instructions

Step 1: Wrap a piece of dental floss around the middle of the toenail.

Step 2:  While holding the floss around the nail circumference with one hand, use a fine point Sharpie® to mark across both pieces of floss. This will create two points.

Step 3: Stretch the floss and measure the distance between the two points in millimeters.

Step 4:
Repeat for all 4 nails on one front paw and one hind paw (not the dewclaw).

Step 5:
Based on the measurements obtained (not the average), use the chart below to find your dog's size. Sometimes a dog will require a combination of two sizes.

ToeGrips for dogs: Reviews

ToeGrips are essential

ToeGrips are a must have for our spaniel who is elderly and can’t hold herself up on the wood floor without slipping, unless she’s wearing her toe grips, Toe grips are truly a blessing and we keep them on repeated order!

Amazing is understatement

My 10.5yr old had a bad acl repair in November, second surgery in February, and her leg atrophied 9cm since she hasn’t put full weight on her leg since November. Until the ToeGrips! She went from skipping on her toes to putting 90% of her weight on her bad leg as soon as I put these on! Her elbows don’t bow out and her gait is relatively smooth now. No more wipe outs on my hard floors and she’s excited for walks! I don’t have to carry her up and down the stairs anymore either.

No more slipping on the stairs for Sammy!

After our old terrier mix, Sammy, slipped a couple of times on the stairs–both going up and down–and even on the level wood floors in our house, I tried the ToeGrips. We measured his nails as per directions, got the medium size, and were able to apply them easily. It helps that he is an easy pup to work on! Since then—and it has been almost a month—no more slipping. We also had lots of snow during that time (Illinois), and the ToeGrips stayed in place even with him going outside to potty! I just signed up for a subscription to get new grips every 5 weeks.

Helping my Pom a ton!

My 8 year old Pom was not able to get traction on our hardwood floors and was slipping and her front legs were splaying out even when she was just standing. Once we put these grips on two weeks ago she is about 98 percent better and able to run and keep her feet under her. They have stayed on the whole time too! Wonderful. We are so thankful!

Harley’s success story

Harley, my 14 yr old pug could not walk on our tile floors without falling several times a day. He has a weak back and arthritis in his hips. After applying the toe grips the difference was remarkable. Harley can now maneuver throughout the house without falling. We have even seen him run a time or two. Thank you so much for your product from Harley and me! Just placed my second order!

Daisy has never been more active

Our 10 year old beagle has had a hard life unfortunately with horrible arthritis and spine issues. She has a horrible time standing and walking on any smooth surface for the past few years. I didn't want something that would stick or I would have to apply with glue in fear of it falling off or being licked off. ToeGrips have changed her life as she is a constant mover now. I dearly wish I would have found these sooner.

Don’t wait!

Before I got around to putting them on, we had a terrible incident where he was given a medication which caused ataxia and my poor old man could barely move without falling over- it was heartbreaking. The morning this happened, while awaiting the callback from our vet, I remembered the Toe Grips and quickly put them on. Although they didn’t help with his loss of coordination, they provided the needed stability to prevent him from falling. It was truly amazing.

Excellent Product

We moved into a new home that has hardwood floors. Our girl, Kaiya (Great Pyrenees) wouldn’t walk on the hard floors, and when she did, she would slide around. We were so worried she’d hurt herself. These toe grips were a game changer. Kaiya walks everywhere now. We will definitely be ordering more. I highly recommend!

“5 stars! The BEST product out there!”

Amazing! Gave my dog his mobility back!

How do ToeGrips dog nail grips work?

All natural for instant traction

We understand how frustrating it is to watch your dog slipping and struggling on hardwood or smooth floors. We care and we can help. We’ve helped thousands of senior dogs just like yours.

ToeGrips are all-natural nail grips that fit on the toenails of each of your dog’s paws for instant traction on slippery surfaces.

Better gripping means less slipping

Dogs use their toenails for traction. They flex their paws and engage their nails like soccer cleats digging into the ground.

But hard nails can’t grip hard floors. ToeGrips dog nail grips work by allowing your dog’s toenails to grip smooth surfaces like hardwood floors.

1. ToeGrips fit on the toenails of each of your dog’s paws.
2. The non-slip nail grips enable instant traction by creating a “grip zone” between the toenails and hard- surface floors and stairs.
3. With better grip, your dog has instant freedom and newfound confidence.

Frequently asked questions

How quickly do ToeGrips work?

The non-slip nail grips fit onto your dog’s toenails to enable instant traction on hard-surface floors and stairs.

How long do ToeGrips dog nail grips last?

ToeGrips® dog nail grips typically last 1-3 months, two months on average. “Mileage” will vary based on your dog’s size, environment, and gait. The more abnormal your dog’s gait, the faster ToeGrips® dog nail grips will wear.

Will my dog chew these off?

Most people assume this is a common scenario, but 97% of dogs do not bother with or chew at their ToeGrips® dog nail grips. In fact, most dogs don’t even seem to notice them, which makes sense because ToeGrips® dog nail grips sit on the poorly innervated nail tip, as opposed to covering skin/soft tissue of the paws and paw pads.

As a veterinarian, ingestion was one of Dr. Buzby’s primary concerns years ago when bringing ToeGrips® dog nail grips to the marketplace. She consulted with several colleagues, including surgeons, about this issue and everyone agreed that based on the size of dog and size of corresponding ToeGrips® dog nail grips, they should pass right through a dog’s GI tract. To date, that has always been the case. Furthermore, ToeGrips® dog nail grips are FDA-certified non-toxic.

Life Changing, So Grateful

Our labradoodle, Fozzy, is 13 years old. He has a cancerous anal tumor along with hip dysplasia, and about six months ago his legs became so weak and shaky that he couldn’t walk or even stand on our hardwood floors (which are throughout our home) without his legs sliding out from under him. We noticed also that he preferred to find the few area rugs in our house and stay on them as much as possible. Soon even his front feet were sliding on our floors.

We bought Fozzy rubber booties to give him more traction, which helped, but he had to wear them all the time, even at night, because he likes to move around the room, and he was struggling to even get up from a lying down position to move to a new spot. The booties were rubbing sores on his feet, and he lost his appetite—alarming for our voracious eater. He became pretty listless and at times seemed anxious. We cancelled our 30th anniversary trip because we just weren’t sure how much longer our sweet boy had with us. Some mornings I cried into Fozzy’s fur, thinking that this day might be his last.

I decided we needed to do something to get him out of those booties. Just before I purchased $2000 worth of rugs I Googled “Is it crazy to line your house with area rugs if your dog has hip dysplasia?” One of the top hits was for Dr Buzby’s ToeGrips.

I read over the informative site with great interest, and a healthy dose of skepticism. It was pretty hard to believe those tiny rubber noodles would really make any difference in supporting my dog’s weak, shaky legs and stop him from sliding around our floors like Bambi on ice. But the videos for sizing and putting them on the dog’s paws were so detailed and reassuring. And the price was much better than buying a house full of disposable area rugs. I decided they were worth a shot, followed the instructions for measuring Fozzy’s nails, and ended up ordering two different sizes, just to be sure.

We started by only placing them on his front feet only. My husband helped, and we were a little nervous, but we followed the detailed instructions from the video and it wasn’t too difficult to get them on his nails. (And I should add NO super glue required, like other nail caps need, yuck). When we were finished we released Fozzy and he went flying out of our arms, on to our hardwoods and splat, just like Bambi. We were disheartened and about to go help him up when slowly and tentatively we watched our sweet boy to lift himself onto all four feet all by himself. He then moved around more slowly, but was able to navigate himself all around our house without our help. A few days later we decided to give the back paws a try, and pretty much the same thing happened—at first his legs splayed out from under him, but he was able to right himself and move about on his own. No more booties, yay!!

Fast forward three months. Fozzy is taking daily walks again, his appetite has improved, he plays like a puppy, rests more soundly, and moves around our home with confidence. New life has been breathed into our sweet companion, and we are so thrilled. About every two weeks I remove all the ToeGrips and inspect them, discarding any that have worn down, trim Fozzy’s nails and replace the ToeGrips. I can do it pretty easily by myself (you can see from the photos, Fozzy is very compliant!) He is still sometimes a little more tentative on our hardwoods, and we did purchase a couple of washable rugs just to give him added stability in a few key areas of our home, but nothing close to the $2000 I had planned to spend.

A note about the sizing: we bought two sizes—I started with the medium size and they went on his nails without a problem. I contacted Dr. Buzby’s to exchange the large for a medium size, and they wrote back saying based on my dog’s breed and weight they expected the large would probably work better for him. They said they would send the medium, but encouraged me to keep the large and give them a try as well. We put the large ToeGrips on Fozzy’s back nails and they also work and stay on just as snugly as the medium size. That’s all to say, don’t stress too much about being off by a size, especially if you find your dog might be between sizes. Dr. Buzby’s will work with you to ensure you get the size that is best for your pet.

We are so grateful to Dr. Buzby’s ToeGrips for helping us to improve Fozzy’s quality of life in the time he has left with us. Thank you Dr. Buzby!

Game Changer

Our 15 year old Yorkie has always had a hard time on hard wood floors! Now that she is older she has an even harder time and falls constantly. The toe grips have changed her life! She can walk with confidence and without falls. I recommend for any older dog or houses with little carpet.

Love these grips

Wish I would of thought about these earlier. Our 13 year old schnauzer has some vision problems and does not like stairs. These really made a difference she doesn’t slide on hardwood floors also. Great product.

Game Changer for our 11 year old Blue Heeler

Our sweet old man has terrible arthritis and generally has a lot of pain getting around. I genuinely thought we were at the end because he was in so much pain and seemed miserable. I had nothing to lose by ordering these and thought it was probably too good to be true. We received them three weeks ago and it is a game changer for our big guy. He is more active, his tail wags more, he gets up and down from our hardwood floors with greater ease. I'm sold. It's like we took 4 years off his age.

works with amazing service

i ordered these for my mostly indoor, tall, 4year old dog in a all slippery floored house. he was sprawling out like bambi on ice constantly and i just knew that can’t be good on his joints. i ordered these on a whim. they emailed me to make sure i understood what these help with, gave advice on how to use it for my dog specifically, and gave complimentary glue to help! they stay on without the glue easily. i just had to train my pup to leave them alone. they work great! he doesn’t sprawl out like he used to. he may start, but the toe grips catch up and give him traction. amazing product that works, and great, thoughtful service
